I think you’d be lying if you said you don’t have a favorite holiday. I mean, everybody has a favorite holiday, right? Some people like St. Patrick’s Day. And others prefer New Year’s. But it seems like most people (by far) favor x-mas. Maybe it’s all the presents. Or it could be because the very best songs are holiday tunes. Whatever the reason, x-mas is definitely the winner of the favorite holiday contest.

And of course, I like Santa, too. But if I had to choose, I’d say my favorite holiday is Halloween.

I mean, come on! It’s unlike any other holiday. And it’s definitely the most creative. (Where else can you see people dressed like Dracula, the Wicked Witch, Swamp Thing, or Zombies all on the same night?) Halloween is simply bizarre and it allows people to let loose a little. (So it’s kind of like music in that way….) Halloween is also the most colorful holiday of the year … since it falls right in the middle of the autumn.

And while it’s true that x-mas wins the trophy for the most excellent music, Halloween has some good songs, too. For example, check out this classic number:
Color is everywhere. And every day, we’re surrounded by a full spectrum of blues, greens, reds, yellows, and so on. Color is what makes life interesting. And frankly, it just looks cool.
Which is probably why artists love using color in their projects. Picasso was a fan of combining different colors and shapes. And so was Andy Warhol, Leonardo da Vinci, Norman Rockwell, M.C. Escher, etc.

Like any other artists, musicians have been known to use color, too … especially on their album covers. Of course, album artwork might not be considered high art. But it can sometimes get interesting—and really colorful.
For example, check out these four records and see if you notice anything in common … Yep, they’re all celebrating color. Which happens to be a lot more connected to music than some people realize. :)
