“American Idol”

If you were asked to name the three most popular shows on TV, what would you say? If you live in the U.S. (or a lot of countries, actually), then one of them would definitely be “American Idol,” right? Since 2002, this singing contest has totally ruled the airwaves. And it’s still getting huge ratings … stirring up a big following of loyal, screaming fans.

What can I say? People simply idolize this show. And why not? Like magic, “American Idol” takes average people and turns them into rock stars—overnight. You don’t even have to play an instrument. Just put on some tight jeans and heavy eyeliner, and you’re already famous. How cool is that?!

But like my mama always told me … “If it seems too good to be true, then it probably is.” Sure, it might seem tempting to jump on the fast track to fame. But if you look a little closer, shows like “American Idol” definitely have their drawbacks. For example:

  1. Without any track record of a real love for music, people might take you less seriously. (In other words, you may end up looking like a bad B movie actor … except for Carrie Underwood, that is.)
  2. In public, some people may see you as a musician … while, in private, you might not really know how to play a single chord. (In other words, looking like a professional musician is pretty different than actually being one.)
  3. Well … the list goes on.

Each season, contestants line up for a chance to win big on “American Idol.” But it’s true what they say—“You can’t get somethin’ for nothin’.” In the end, I’m personally a fan of those people who really love music. Who give it their best … and who don’t take shortcuts. And hey, with Color Music, there’s no need to get desperate. Seriously, who knows? If you keep at it long enough, you just might get your own record deal and limo driver. Sweet!
