The official shoe of music
Every time the Olympics roll around, the world is full of sponsorships. Flip through any channel on TV and you’ll see products like Gatorade, Nike, Snickers, Wheaties—you name it—all claiming that they’re the official choice of athletes. Companies pay millions of dollars to get “official sponsor” status. It’s big business … and the Olympics make a killing.
Which has got me thinking. In your opinion, what’s the “official” shoe of music? If you had to picture one brand that was the favorite choice of the very best musicians, what would it be? In the 1980s, pioneer rap group, Run DMC, claimed it was Adidas. In fact, they helped that shoe company sell tons of sneakers with their hit “My Adidas.” And the song landed those rappers a pretty sweet endorsement deal.
But these days, I’d have to say there’s nothing like a nice pair of “Chuck Taylors” by Converse.
They’re everywhere. And “Chucks” fit like a glove. Which makes it easy to tap the sustain pedal on my piano … play the wah-wah pedal with my electric guitar … or hit the bass pedal on the drums. What can I say? My Converse shoes are totally versatile.
If we surveyed most musicians, what do you think they would say? Are these the best shoes for making music … or is there something better? Let me know what you think. If you had to pick, what should be the official shoe of music?
